So where does it start?

Most people seek help with manual therapy when they are in pain or their bodies are unable to let them live their lives normally.

At this stage everything hurts and when we examine the area of the injury, it is excruciating to touch – sometimes the pain feels like a red hot poker.  Your daily life might be enormously affected as you are unable to work, turn over in bed or get up from a chair. Many patients may have been sent in by their other halves as they are more irritable at home and with a short fuse due to poor quality sleep because of pain.

What is important to remember is that you may go up and down in your recovery, like a roller coaster in the first few treatments.  You might initially get better, only to feel it go backwards again.  This is normal, and we call this the healing crisis, but eventually the body starts to correct and change it’s alignment or function.

At this point you need to be patient.  As we are habitual creatures the brain might not even like the changes. Many of our patients have been out of alignment for many years and this takes a little while to change and restore.  But we work on the premise of finding the imbalance and the root of the problem and help you uncover it and correct it. Medicine for pain relief often just works on the premise of reducing pain, and this may not help you improve joint mobility, alignment, postural habits and behaviour, which we feel is important in the jigzaw journey of creating a healthy life style.
