We have exciting news about the Green Hub Project for Teens founded by Tone Tellefsen Hughes of Luck’s Yard Clinic.

Last week we received the wonderful news that the Green Hub Team had won a £2000 prize to buy materials for the gardening project!

Each year, Farnborough based garden materials company – KEBUR – sponsor a local community garden project by donating £2,000 in materials.

Having spent 12 months of lockdown getting the necessary procedures and policies in place, Garden Manager Helen Chester, came up with her vision for the garden.  Assisted by advisory committee member (and owner of Bushy Business Gardens) Chris Stone, a plan was put together to define the infrastructure that would underpin the whole project.

The team became aware of the fantastic ‘KEBUR’ opportunity and duly submitted a proposal with a ‘wish list’ of garden materials that were needed to fulfil their requirements to help move the project forward and welcome the first teens in 2021.

On Friday 28th May, live on BBC Surrey our founder, Tone Tellefsen-Hughes, received the wonderful news that we had won!!

Speaking on behalf of Kebur Garden Materials, Marketing Manager Jo Holtom commented, “The judges chose Green Hub garden project because of the huge impact it should have for young people facing particular challenges at the moment.”

More about the Green Hub

The Green Hub Project for Teens is an amazing walled gardening space in Milford. It’s been designed for teens struggling with mental health and anxiety – there are so many pressures on young people these days – and the garden will provide a perfect sanctuary for them.

The aim is for the teens to work in small, safe groups where they will learn gardening skills in the outside environment, be physically active and have the opportunity to take some time away from their phones and social media.

How you can get involved …..

We desperately need some garden and DIY volunteers to help us get the space ready to take teens, post lockdown. We have a plan. We have the materials. But we need your help…..

We are looking for some willing folk to donate just 3 hours of their time to help get the infrastructure up to standard:

·      We have raised sleeper beds to lay
·      A wall to fix
·      A pergola to build
·      A shed that needs building
·      A path to lay and so on……..

We have a professional garden landscaper heading the team, but we need some willing and semi-skilled bodies to assist! It’s not planting or mowing lawns, more like digging new beds and building things, so being good with tools – of the garden or DIY variety – is really what we need.

That and some muscles to shift lots of heavy materials in and out of the garden.

So, if you are handy with a spade, or a saw – or both! – and you don’t mind a few hours manual labour (think of the exercise!) you’d be most welcome.

The details:

  • The garden is in Milford.
  • The 3 hour sessions (am & pm) are on Friday 11th & Saturday 12th June
  • Refreshments provided
  • Feel-good factor – GUARANTEED!

You only need to commit to half a day – but if you want to stay for longer would be fantastic!
