At the end of October 2010  all GPs and Chief Nursing Officers were asked by the Department of Health to recommend patients, who are seeking complementary therapies, to consult with practitioners who are registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC), where it registers the professional discipline concerned. CAM practitioners who hold current registration with the CNHC will be seen to meet criteria in relation to Patient Safety.
