What happens in Counselling?

People come to counselling for all sorts of reasons and are often seeking help for the first time in their lives. It takes great courage to get to this point. You may come to counselling with a specific issue, or finding it difficult or even painful to name the problem. The feeling that something is “just not quite right” is often where we start on our journey together.

As your counsellor, I am here to develop trust, offer acceptance, empathically listen without judgment, and help you experience a deeper understanding of your feelings and situation. I help you move towards greater independence through encouraging personal growth and responsibility.

Sometimes I use creative approaches to help you engage with your feelings. It is always your decision whether you wish to use these or not, and I will take your lead in every session.

I aim to make counselling a welcoming safe and confidential space for you to be heard and respected.

Please take a look at my website for more information.

How often do I come to Counselling?

  • You will see me weekly for 6 weeks and as we get to know each other, we decide together how many sessions you would like. We will review our work regularly.
  • Each session lasts for 50 minutes
  • When you wish to finish counselling it is advisable to spend some time working towards an ending. This allows an opportunity to review and conclude your therapeutic experience, so please discuss this with me.

What is Confidentiality?

My service is confidential (within the law) and information (including any written notes) given during counselling sessions will not be normally passed on to another person without your knowledge. The only exceptions to confidentiality are:

  • Any suspected or known abuse of a vulnerable person.
  • If I feel you, or someone connected to you is in danger of harm, there may be a need to inform your GP or other professionals who could be of assistance.
  • Offences under the Terrorism or Data Protection Acts
  • If required by law.

In all these cases I want to work with you and have your agreement before I act.

In the interests of ensuring best practice, I will discuss our sessions with a qualified and accredited supervisor. We both abide by the BACP codes of confidentiality, and only your first name will be used.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and bound by their professional code of ethics. This gives you confidence that I will work to very high standards in ensuring safety and trust.

What if I can’t make it to a session?

Please let me know as soon as possible if you can’t make it to a session. Ideally 3 working days in advance. Cancellation without 3 working days’ notice will incur a £25 charge.

Call 07751 979807. Notification by text or voice message is fine; I will text to confirm receipt.

She can effectively use both these skills in a creative way to help people figure out who they are and how they feel inside. She is very experienced and makes anyone feel comfortable with her calm personality and gentle nature. I know that anyone who would start to work with her would benefit enormously.
