Philip Oliver – Luck’s Yard Hero

The Heroes of Luck’s Yard – those that inspires us every day!

I will not be defined by my age!

In 2018, we are continuing our theme of active agingand are interviewing patients of Luck’s Yard over the age of 60 that continue to inspire us. You have been selected as one of our heroes and we would love to ask you a few questions about your life and philosophy, so we can inspire others around us. We especially would love to share your life wisdom to the younger generation to help them look for positive role models in their lives.

We will be adding these on a monthly basis on our website so we can share the story of one of our Luck’s Yard Heroes each month.

  • What makes you laugh or smile?

Questions and comments from small children: “Don’t worry Grandad, it’ll be alright” from a 2 year old. Watching dogs play on a beach. The O’Brian books (see below)

Seeing, if possible helping, young people succeed in life.

  • If you ever wake up feeling low what do you do to revive your sparkle?

Have a good breakfast with lots of fresh fruit. A hot shower and a good stretch.

Stay positive no matter what.

Sailing our boat with my wife, walking, swimming, reading, painting.

  • What would you do all over again?

My only regret is not being around a bit more when our children were growing up.

  • What do you think has helped you to be fit and healthy today?

A positive attitude, an enquiring mind and a supportive partner.

  • What advice would you have told your younger self?

Don’t be afraid to engage with the new – be it people or ideas. Look for the best in both.
