As our long summer days move us into August, many of us feel the familiar pull of our social calendars — holidays, family gatherings, festivals, and more.
We’ve had some of the hottest and driest summers in years, inviting us to spend more time outside, enjoy longer evenings, and start our days earlier.
It’s been a season that draws us outward.
For some, this brings a welcome boost: more time in nature, time away from work, and a general sense of aliveness.
But for others, it can feel like things start speeding up — too much, too fast.
Even when life is full of good things, summer has a way of stirring everything. Add to that the intensity of recent heatwaves, and for those already juggling a lot, one too many social invites or family commitments can tip us into overwhelm without us even noticing.
So this outward flow only feels good if we’re also grounded within ourselves.
Summer and the Heart–Throat Connection
In many energy-based practices, summer is linked to the heart and throat energy centres — the parts of us connected to expression, confidence, and connection.
During summer, we often communicate more and spend more time with others.
We give more of ourselves. And that can slowly drain our emotional reserves.
When this shows up as exhaustion or impatience, it’s a signal to pause.
Because for many of us, expansion feels like overextension.
You might feel tired — yet still unable to slow down.
Giving Yourself Space to Pause
Pausing doesn’t have to mean cancelling everything or disappearing for days.
Sometimes it’s about creating small spaces in your week that allow your body and mind to catch up.
Here are a few gentle ways to support your energy during this active season:
– Start your morning slowly – Even five quiet minutes before the day begins can help anchor your nervous system. That might look like taking a longer shower or watching the kettle boil instead of scrolling your phone.
– Take a ‘transition breath’ between activities – After a phone call, before you leave the house, or when you park the car. Sit for a moment. Breathe. These small pauses add up.
– Protect moments of solitude – A walk without your phone. A quiet cuppa in the garden. These things matter more than we often realise.
– Notice your response to social plans – Are you saying yes out of habit, guilt, or genuine desire to connect?
– Give yourself permission to rest – Even when everything looks fine on the surface. Five minutes with your feet up can shift your whole day.
If You’re Finding It Hard to Stop…
If your energy feels scattered or your body’s asking for stillness, a Reiki session can offer a gentle reset.
It’s an invitation to soften, ground, and return to centre — especially helpful if the pace of summer has pulled you away from yourself.
How Reiki Can Support You This Season
Reiki offers a space to step out of the noise and come back into balance.
It’s a gentle, hands-on (or hands-off) fully clothed treatment that works with your body’s own energy field to support deep rest and recalibration.
Many clients describe leaving a session feeling calmer, clearer, and more themselves again — without needing to ‘talk it out’ or explain.
While chiropractic and physiotherapy focus on the body’s structure and movement, Reiki works with the more subtle layers of emotional and energetic wellbeing.
It’s not either/or — it’s part of a whole system of care.
