We are delighted to welcome Helen Woodland to the team of therapists at Luck’s Yard. Helen will be working alongside Nicky Bateman, running the new Soothing Baby Clinic.

Helen qualified as a registered nurse in 1987 working on a variety of wards. She then joined the Health Visiting team in the community for 8 years working with young families, prior to attending Surrey University to gain a BSc with First Class Honours as a Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Health Visiting) in 2015.

Helen is passionate about early interventions in babies and young children to promote social and emotional development, having attended additional training at both Anna Freud Centre and OXPIP (Oxford Parent-Infant Project). Helen has also facilitated many baby massage groups to promote positive early parent-infant interactions, which enables the baby to feel secure, calm and helps to increase the parent’s awareness of the needs of their baby and supports early bonding.

Helen enjoys using a strengths-based approach to develop therapeutic relationships with parents and says: ‘I love actively working and engaging with mothers, fathers and other members of the extended family to achieve positive outcomes for children’.

As a Health Visitor, Helen played a vital role in ensuring every child got the best possible start in life enabling them to reach their full potential. The importance of the antenatal period, transition to parenthood and the early weeks, supporting parents with feeding, both breast, bottle and the introduction of family foods. She also supported the health, wellbeing and development of the child.
