We are delighted to announce that Harry Boyd won gold in the Junior Boys Years 8 and 9 race at the Surrey Schools Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in Reigate.
Harry was representing Waverley in the 4.5km race and won in a time of 13 minutes 52 seconds, 24 seconds ahead of the second place.
The very muddy conditions were extremely challenging and required the competitors’ to wear long spikes on their shoes.
This win gives him the chance to represent Surrey Schools in Southampton in 2 weeks time at the South of England schools championships. He also will represent Surrey at English Schools championships in Castle Donnington in March.
He is regularly treated by Tone Tellefsen Hughes and the sports therapy team who include Rob Rusak our deep tissue massage therapist and Jay Sandhu one of our podiatrists. The emphasis on treatment is helping his performance and assisting in his recovery after races.
Tone says: ‘We can all be inspired by the sheer dedication, hard work and tenacity that Harry shows in his attitude to training and competing. He has to train several times a week throughout the year to achieve his goals and is always striving to improve his performance. His positive attitude is an example to us all’.
We have added a YouTube clip below which shows races from English schools last year and helps to explain the scale of the competitions. You can see Harry winning various races and helps to give you an idea of the athletic year including all the mud and glory!
