| What is chiropractic? |
|
Chiropractic care is a manual therapy where we use gentle and specific techniques to align the joints and therefore restore nerve and muscle function and balance. This is aimed to relieve pain and reduce muscle spasm, as well as helping restricted joints to move better. What are the benefits? Many people see a chiropractor for mechanical back pain, muscle spasms and general aches and pains. From clinical experience the clinic have seen patients becoming more and more flexible and reporting of less pain. Some have reported being able to bend and touch the floor for the first time in years. Being in pain and discomfort is energy consuming and affects all aspects of ones life - personal, family and professional. By getting into alignment and becoming balanced, it could help your body to feel more relaxed and comfortable.
Human bodies are built to cope with a lot of stresses of many kinds, such as physical, chemical and mental. However, during times of stress or trauma, there may come a point when we have reached a breaking point and the balance is tipped over. This is when the you could get muscle spasm and possibly joint stiffness, which in turn could cause nerve tension such as sciatica or neuralgia. It is helpful to remember that the nervous system controls the tension of the muscles of the body and can therefore create muscle spasm or muscle weakness. In chiropractic we often talk about rehabilitation. This is the re-education of muscles and joints to start working effectively again after injury or a period of misuse. It does not take long for our bodies to adopt bad habits and incorrect muscle function, but it takes quite a while to re-programme or correct these bad habits. We therefore ask you to work with us to help yourself! |
