Kirsty Surrell

BSc (Hons) LicAc MBAcC
Acupuncturist

Kirsty trained at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCTA) and graduated with a BSc Honours Degree.  She is a fully insured member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC).

Her particular interests include the treatment of gynaecological complaints and infertility, as well as supporting women throughout their pregnancies.  She recently returned to LCTA to study for an MSc in Oriental Herbal Medicine as part of her continuing professional development.

Kirsty initially became interested in acupuncture when, at 16 years old, she was diagnosed with ME/Chronic Fatigue and lost the use of her legs.  Due to the lack of exercise, this had an adverse effect on her diabetes and blood sugar control.  Despite seeing a physiotherapist and doctors on a regular basis, her condition was not improving so she turned to acupuncture and herbal medicine.  She believes this was the best decision she ever made.

Within weeks her energy levels had increased and she was feeling better, emotionally and physically, than she had in months.  She continued with regular treatments and, after 6 months, felt well enough to go back to college and study for her ‘A’ Levels.

She then worked at her local hospital on both the Special Care Baby Unit and the maternity ward and was considering a career in nursing and midwifery.  However, a chance meeting with an Acupuncture student suddenly made her realise what she wanted to do with her life.  Since then, she has completed her degree and set up her own business.  She also continues to work part-time on the Special Care Baby Unit.

Other than Chinese medicine, Kirsty's hobbies include reading, walking and travelling.  She also runs a rabbit rescue from home with her mother, caring for and re-homing previously unwanted rabbits.
